Yuletide 2019 Letter

Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you so much for checking out this letter! I'm [archiveofourown.org profile] echoslam, and I'm very happy to be participating in Yuletide again this year.

General likes:
-Holiday or winter themes
-AUs of all sorts - I especially love alignment swaps, career changes, and video game crossovers

Game of Zones (Web Series)

Ser Kyle Lowry of House Toronto Raptors

This series is what happens when you mashup HBO's Game of Thrones with memes from the NBA subreddit. Despite my only having read the books and being only a very casual follower of the sport, I found this to be the funniest web series I have ever seen, and it had me scrambling to look up 30 years of basketball history just so I could understand all the references. The whole series is available on Youtube: Season 1, Ep. 1

I'm only requesting Ser Kyle, but feel free to include any and everyone from the basketball world. I loved every episode of every season and would be thrilled to see references to any of them. I have a DNW for real-life politics, but things like inter-team rivalry and trade drama are fair game. I ask that you treat everyone only as the over-the-top versions of themselves portrayed in the show and not go into their personal lives.

House Raptors has had an amazingly entertaining arc both in and out of series, full of heartbreak and tension. Having become NBA Champions for the first time ever this year, I'm curious to see what will be in store for them next, especially set within this crazy universe. Let there be fire and blood on the basketball court!

Prompts:
  • The regular season has just begun, and Winter is Coming. Lord Ujiri has ice in his veins and Ser Kyle has returned to lead as Commander, but will it be enough to stop the onslaught from the south? What is their strategy with House Golden State still in recovery? (Thank you, tag mods for giving the Baby-Faced Assassin his full name). Basically, I'd love to see what you think the next House Raptors episode will look like.

  • Anything to do with team dynamics or promotional activities: trash talk during practice sessions, stuff about Serge Ibaka's cooking show, etc. How will they celebrate their coronation as KINGS IN THE NORTH alongside Ambassador Champagne Papi? (I welcome references to any and all Drake memes).

  • Reminiscences about the Three Years' War with King James. That storybook scene from A Storm of Sweeps was amazing.

  • Wild adventures in Jurassic Park, either the Michael Crichton setting or Maple Leaf Square. Either way, it would be great if actual dinosaurs are involved.

  • How's the horse doing? Are they still feeling traumatized by LeBron?

  • Just give me any kind of cracky basketball meta, and I will be so happy!


Liar! Office Deception

Main Character

Fandom-specific DNW: MC in a romantic relationship with Minoru, Daikichi, or Guy

I've received such wonderful gifts for this series, but I still love it so, and I can't stop myself from requesting it once again.^^ I'm always worried that Voltage is going to pull the plug on the English app any day now... (Thank you so much, fluffybun, for writing me amazing Liar! fics two Yuletides in a row!!!)

I can't believe we actually got a live-action movie for Uncover the Truth this year! It sounds like it was well-received? XD On that note, please feel free to have cameo appearances of characters from the other games since everything takes place within the same universe. For those, I'm happy to see MC shipped with anyone in their respective tag sets if you'd like to include other pairings/double dates, etc.

I'm fine with any name for the Main Character(s) as well as leaving her nameless. There's a list of pre-generated names from the JP Version of the game if you'd like some choices.

I love how Office Deception's MC is such a dedicated workaholic but still dotes on her cat named after James Bond. I'd love to see someone else's take on a relationship involving her and anyone in the tagset, whether it's pre-ship gen, something based on one of the Liar! endings/Lover's routes, or an alternate ending. I really would love just about anything! (I have not yet unlocked the Office Deception or Scheming Socialites Lover's Routes in JP Doubt, but if you have, I totally don't mind spoilers!)

Canon divergence, post-game with redeemed Liars, or total AUs are all welcome.

Prompts:
  • Yuusei: Seeing him building a new life for himself as part of the Mamiya Family would be fascinating or I'd love to see his process of falling for MC despite her being his target. Smut is welcome, especially since it's part his skillset in canon...

  • Reina: I still love her despite everything! Finding a way to make amends, stuff about pining for MC earlier in the game, scheming up ways for them to be alone together...feel free to go dark.

  • Kohei: So, based on his outfit, I'm totally convinced that Kohei's design was inspired by the main character from the 2005 Densha Otoko movie XD, so maybe a retelling of that story involving the rest of the cast/other Liar! characters? It would be great to see him open up more or for other characters to encourage him in pursuing MC (esp Shiori as I believe she's his assistant), using his "special skill" to help MC, more pining, making amends with James

  • May: Redemption arc, AU where MC works at Daito instead of Media Act with May and Keisuke's roles switched, MC goes searching for her post game and they make amends

  • More general ideas: Romantic Christmas date, slice of life at Media Act, (accidental?) love confession at the office holiday party, preparing for or attending the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo (references to IRL PR campaigns, locations, or events are more than welcome).


The Secret World

Any Character (Tagset: Andy Gardener, Kirsten Geary, Mei Ling, Richard Sonnac)

One of the best MMO experiences of my life. TSW combined so many things I love into one game: an awesome modern setting, dark humor, and an incredible story with amazing characters. I play the reboot from time to time, but I prefer the original version and still like to play on the vanilla server. For me, the end of Issue #12 was the final act of the story, but if you'd like to explore the Legends timeline, feel free. I've also played the tie-in game, The Park, and will also have completed Moons of Madness by the time of reveals. I love the world of this game so much, especially the urban areas (the faction hubs, Fusang, Tokyo) and New England, but really seeing any kind of content for this would make me so happy.

If you're feeling inspired to do interactive fiction, I absolutely loved "Choose Your Own" (the parser-based text game quest), and anything like that would be amazing.

Prompts:
  • I was fascinated by all the narrative details in this game, like the lore honeycombs and ambient storytelling. If you could incorporate that into your writing, that would be fantastic. Humorous ones, especially.

  • For me, text messages the faction handlers were a better reward than quest gear or any amount of PAX, so more of those would be great. For the record, my main was a Lumie that chose not to side with the Dreamers, but I'd be happy to read about any faction/alignment.

  • TSW truly had amazing holiday event quests, and seeing any kind of reference to those would be excellent! (I especially loved The Broadcast and The Seven Silences, as well as The Christmas Conspiracy). Samhain during Yule season is never not awesome.

  • Anything Mei/Rose (really into their star-crossed lovers thing) or Moose/Andy (Moose's pining was rather adorable). Theirs were romances I was waiting to see blossom, but alas, it never happened. I just love the idea of romance during the end of days. Whether you want to make it complete crack or be serious about it, I would love to see something develop between these characters. Spending time together or going on missions anywhere in the game. Maybe they go on a date for tacos at Dante's stall? Or what about hanging out at that PC Bang in Seoul where they're totally playing StarCraft? What happens when Andy finally catches on to Moose's crush on him? How about rescue romance or rides on Moose's chopper? How can Mei and Rose resolve their differences regarding their factions' opposition (would be interesting to see Dragon!Rose or Templar!Mei)? Alex as the funny third wheel. Pining, requited or unrequited, would be good, too.

  • Would love to read anything about any of the tagset characters going into the field and doing some exploration, talking to different NPCs etc. Please do go into excruciating detail about gear and abilities, because I'm all about that. (I miss the old combat system so much!) What are their primary/secondary/auxiliary weapons? Which NPCs are their besties? Tell me everything!

  • I adore faction rivalries, and the ones in TSW were just awesome. Whether it's old school Templars vs. Illuminati or you get the Dragon involved somehow, I just love witnessing all the contention. Seriously, you could just write 1,000 words of back-and-forth trash talk, and I would absolutely adore it.


Warriors - Imagine Dragons (Music Video)

Any Character (Tagset: Player in the Baseball Cap, Player in the Green Shirt, Player in the Red Hoodie)

Probably the greatest eSports hype video of all time. I remember being mesmerized by this back when it came out in 2014 and how the LoL community kind of collectively lost their minds over it. Good times.

I was a League player for many years and will appreciate any meta, mechanics, or lore references you want to include, but they are definitely not necessary. Please tell me whatever story you want about these players! Feel free to make up names for them if you like. I'm just so curious to know what narrative details you bring in and how that works alongside the song and the action scenes in the video.



Prompts:
  • Any kind of exploration of the Main characters. Is Baseball Cap the "good guy" or are they up to something? That Look Green Shirt gives Red Hoodie at 01:06 tells me they've Seen Some Shit. What was it? (As in, what have Red Hoodie's epic meltdowns looked like in the past)? Speaking of Red Hoodie, they're pretty much a story all on their own, what with that intensity and those huge salt crystals. What is their deal?? IMO, the Dark Sphere they conjure seems to indicate that they're a Syndra player (just like Baseball Cap?) but feel free to expand on that however you want.

  • This is a League promo, but I'd love to see an alternate interpretation of what these players are all about. What draws them into the game, and what motivates them to pursue the championship? How do they celebrate after a victory or commiserate after a loss?

  • Details about what went on during the first match: Baseball Cap's team comp appears to be Draven/Thresh/Syndra/Jinx/Aatrox. Are they streaming? (Twitch is open on their left screen). Why are they so tense? Are they prepping for a confrontation with Red Hoodie's team?

  • Slice-of-life about the players and the kind of world they're living in. Baseball Cap has a Pentakill poster, so maybe it's a universe where LoL champions exist IRL? Maybe they really do have superpowers? I'd love to see what you think.

  • The story behind everyone's joys and frustrations during the nerdrage sequence. What's the history of all these other players and their big wins and losses?

  • Baseball Cap/Red Hoodie Rivalshipping, Green Shirt/Red Hoodie Partnershipping, or heck, Baseball Cap/Green Shirt Somethingshipping.

  • Just anything at all about high-energy eSports feelings!
