It's a whole new year! Cheers to all. Like many, I would have to say 2025 was gnarly, and mostly not in a good way.

I passed my exam though, and I'm currently scrambling to catch up on all the actually fun things I wanted to think/write about. It's a big disorganized mess right now, but I'm working on it.

There's at least half a dozen fandom-related write-ups I want to do, but I want to start with MFG because the new season snuck up on me soooo fast. It's already here!

7'Scarlet Title

World End Syndrome

I've wanted to do a writeup of my experience playing these two visual novels since ages ago, but never got around to it until now. They have a special place in my heart, and I've always wanted to talk about the connection between them because it's something I've never seen discussed at length anywhere else.

Was anybody going to tell me that World End Syndrome is a 7'Scarlet remake or was I just supposed to play them both and find that out myself? )

This has been a big year for me in terms of canon consumption. I think it kicked off back around January when I had an illness that made me lose my sense of taste and smell for about a month and a half (it wasn't COVID). It was an unfun experience, and I distracted myself by attacking my gaming/watching backlog in earnest. The result? Way way too many fandom feelings. Not really good timing on my part. I have tests to study for this year, lmao.

Someday I want to make longposts about these, but uh, that would require being organized:

- Lost Ark: a long ass story that goes back to 2022. I haven't logged in in a while, but I have many thoughts about what didn't work about the global release

- Way too many dating sims. I especially want to compare 7'Scarlet vs World End Syndrome bc it was so fascinating to me to play two different games that follow pretty much the exact same story

- Like, every Gundam series. There was a point in my life where I strived to consume every piece of Gundam media starting with UC 0079. My old el jay name was actually "[Famous Gundam character]-suffix" but I don't want to talk about that time because it was toooo embarasssing, lol. The recent titles have been such a ride, and I'm really considering pursuing my goal again

- The King's Avatar live action drama is gone from Netflix in my area, and that is bad bc now all I have easily available are the weTV subs that were overall not good and bizarrely terrible in some respects (antisemitic Blue River? Bro doesn't deserve that). Really want to do a novel reread and write myself some chapter summaries for my own clarity.

- It seems that it's a trend that my big fixations will be precipitated by long airport media binges. Over the summer, I was attempting to travel to visit family, and my flight got cancelled at the gate. This resulted in me spending the rest of my day in the airport and marathoning Twin Peaks on my phone.

- I finally made it to my destination, and while I was there, my friend inadvertently spoiled me for the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen, which was a good thing! My expectations were subverted in a positive way, and it definitely rekindled my interest.

Yesterday I drank three cups of coffee and binge read about 100 chapters of a popular ongoing manga series. I hit a really big MCD, and it affected me a lot more than I expected. They weren't my favorite character, but they were a lynchpin of the central cast, and things definitely won't be the same without them. (My actual fave is presumably running around still alive but MIA).

I gotta admit I am having some "done with this" feelings about the series itself. The 50 or so chapters I've read since haven't landed for me at all. Something similar happened to me with
SpoilerL
in Death Note and
SpoilerNobara
in Jujutsu Kaisen and well, I never did go back. The story just didn't seem meaningful to me anymore without them.

I don't want to give details because spoiling this death really will ruin the whole thing. But just...man. Feels like such a waste.

This past week, the English version of the Liar! app finally closed service after seven years, and I won't lie - I'm definitely sad about it.

Cut for me being overly invested in a goofy mobile app game. Also some nostalgia screenshots. )
